The World of Design and Construction as we know it is changing. With the introduction of green and sustainable design and construction, the days of retaining an architect to develop a set of plans to bid out to general contractors are rapidly disappearing.
The U.S. Green Building Council's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System is the benchmark for green design and construction in the nation, and practically every other green building program in existence bases their criteria from the LEED programs. The USGBC LEED programs include LEED NC (New Construction), Renovation, Homes, Interior Design, Hotels, and the list goes on. To date, sixteen cities have mandated all tax-dollar construction to be LEED Certified, and the movement is rapidly expanding.
